Low-Cost Carrier Eliminates Charges to Support America's Troops |
AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AAI) , announced today that it will waive all baggage fees for active service personnel showing military orders for travel. The airline has already been waiving the second checked bag fee and overweight bag fees. This waiver of all bag fees for the military goes into effect Monday, August 18.
AirTran Airways has a long history of championing the nation's military men and women. The airline is a proud supporter of the Fisher House Foundation, a nonprofit organization aiding military families, as well as providing flights for Snowball Express, and Helping our Heroes, a program in which the airline flies families to visit injured military personnel at Walter Reed Hospital. AirTran Airways routinely works with the military to accommodate unplanned travel changes to the schedules of military personnel as a part of their call to duty.
"AirTran Airways is proud to do its part by eliminating fees on checked baggage for our troops," said Bob Fornaro, chairman, CEO and president of AirTran Airways. "We want to do all we can to ease their travel experience and show our support for what they are doing for our country."
