Continental Announces Cargo Emissions Calculator With Sustainable Travel International |

Continental Airlines, in partnership with Sustainable Travel International (STI) launched North America's first airline Cargo Emissions Calculator. |
As more and more shippers request carbon footprint data for their shipments, this innovative tool provides easy origin and destination entry, and the voluntary option to purchase carbon offsets for the itinerary. It enables forwarders to be responsive to their customers by quickly determining the carbon impact of Continental flights, in their logistics chain.
Proceeds from customer contributions to Sustainable Travel International fund the purchase of carbon offsets, which are generated from high-impact sustainable development projects that are designed to reduce the impact of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Sustainable Travel International provides carbon offset projects, located all over the world, which are independently verified and or certified by third-party sources.
'We have the most fuel-efficient fleet among U.S. network carriers. We replaced more than 20 older Classic 737s this year and we have more than 100 new advanced-technology Boeing aircraft on order. Why hide from carbon issues? We are going to take a leadership position and make it as easy as possible for shippers to work with us', said Jack Boisen, Vice President Cargo Division.
The carbon offsetting option is part of a company-wide commitment to environmental responsibility.
