Virgin America today launches twice daily service between Washington Dulles International (Washington Dulles) and San Francisco International (SFO) airports, adding a fourth route to its growing operations. As America's newest airline, Virgin America will also launch service from Washington Dulles to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on October 24.
"We're thrilled to finally start flying from our nation's capital to the West Coast and we hope that Washingtonians like the unique features we bring to the market," said Fred Reid, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin America. "With plugs for your laptop or blackberry at your seat, a cutting-edge in- flight entertainment system with satellite TV and 25 movies, great food on demand and custom-designed leather seats -- our brand new planes were designed with the transcontinental DC traveler in mind."
In honor of launching service to our nation's capital, Virgin America is offering special fares starting at $129 Washington Dulles-SFO* and $119 Washington Dulles-LAX.* Virgin America flights to and from Washington Dulles have conveniently-timed morning and evening departures.
Virgin America marks the start of Washington Dulles service today with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the departure gate, where Mr. Reid will be joined by Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Margaret McKeough. Guests on the inaugural flight were also treated to a special breakfast and champagne toast at the gate prior to sendoff.
"We welcome Virgin America to our family of airlines at Washington Dulles International," said James E. Bennett, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. "This unique new service will be a great addition to our wide array of air service options for travelers."
